There are many activities you can enjoy in the Hunter region. Join the locals for a dip in Newcastle's famous ocean baths at Merewether Beach and Newcastle Beach or, if you prefer to ride the waves, check out the action at Nobbys and Bar Beach. There are also lots of local sporting groups available to rugby league, soccer, netball and cricket enthusiasts of all ages.

  • For the walkers there are many walking trails and paths in the Newcastle area to explore. Some of these, such as the Fernleigh Track and Tramway Track, are shared paths that are suitable for riding at a leisurely pace.

Swimming pools

There are many public pools in the Hunter Valley region and in the Newcastle region. With lifeguards on duty and excellent facilities including grass and shaded areas, kiosk, picnic and BBQ facilities, the swim centres are ideal venues to cool off with family and friends on a hot day.
