Sport and recreation

Sydney caters for almost all sport and recreational activities. Visit the local government website of the area you live in to learn more about the local sports facilities and activities.

Sydney sport and recreation

More and more Sydneysiders are riding bikes for transport, with a 100% increase over the past three years. The City is supporting this growth in cycling by building a 200 kilometre bike network which includes dedicated bike paths separating riders from traffic and pedestrians. The City also offers helpful courses, cycling in the city and bike care and maintenance at the Sydney Park Cycling Centre.

Major sporting teams to support in Sydney include the rugby league teams South Sydney Rabbitohs, Sydney Roosters, West Tigers and Parramatta Eels.

If Rugby Union is your spectator sport of choice, the New South Wales Waratahs and Western Sydney Rams are the teams to support.

Swimming pools

Sydneysiders love the water and the City of Sydney proudly provides the community with five outstanding aquatic centres. While each centre is different, they all boast 50-metre pools for lap swimming as well as a smaller pool for learners and leisure seekers.

The Hawkesbury City Council also operates two swimming pools for the Richmond area, while the Liverpool City Council is home to two leisure and aquatic centres.
