Public transport options
Public transport in Cairns is limited, however there are a few services available which connect Cairns to the rest of tropical north Queensland.
Sunbus operates throughout the city, running from the northern beaches to the southern suburbs via the CBD.
Private bus charters operate services covering Port Douglas, Mossman, Kuranda, the Atherton Tablelands and Mission Beach.
Queensland Rail operates regular passenger services between Brisbane and Cairns on The Sunlander and the high-speed Tilt Train. The Sunlander has been chosen as one of the World’s Top 25 Rail Journeys by the Society of International Railway Travellers.
Cairns International Airport is the nation’s sixth busiest in terms of combined international and domestic passenger movements. Qantas, Virgin Blue and Jetstar operate daily flights to and from cities all around Australia.
